History of congkak in Nusantara

Congkak is trusted to origin from word ‘congak’ in old Malays spoken language which mean numerate. This is because this game expects the people to be capable to ‘count’ and somebody who is proficient in mathematic shall create certain advantage in this game.

It is said that this game went on since the Malacca Kingdom in which it has spread across many area in south east asia region. This is because this kingdom happen to be the main city for business while on their prime time.

There is no evidence how it spread to Nusantara

In early days it is believed that this game is for the king family and the palace occupant, nonetheless afterwards it disseminate to the people inside the kingdom.

If we look at the Congkak which is the wood carve, we could know that it is similar to a boat. It is said that this game was start out by a fisherman. Based on the legend, this fisherman not able to go to the sea during raining season & he loss his income during this time. To prevent him from become very bored, he have create this game which is similar to his boat.
