History of congkak in SouthEast Asia

Congkak is trusted to origin from phrase ‘congak’ in old Malays terminology which mean counting. This is because this game expects the participant to be able to ‘count’ & individual that is skillful in mathematic can own a few advantage in this game.

It is said that this game happened since the Malacca Kingdom where it has spread through numerous nation in south east asia region. This is because this kingdom happen to be the main city for business during their prime time.

There is no evidence how it spread to SouthEast Asia

In early days it is thought that this game is for the king family & the palace occupant, eventually afterwards it spread to the people in the kingdom.

If we observe the Congkak which is the wood carve, we shall understand that it is similar to a boat. It is said that this game was initiate by a fisherman. Based on the legend, this fisherman unable to go to the sea during raining month and he loss his income during this time. To prevent him from become very bored, he have create this game which is similar to his boat.
